Description

Jazz and classical meet at MCG Jazz for an evening of “Classical Standards.” This program brings the talents of the Grammy Award-winning MCG Jazz and world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony together for one night only. You’ll hear contemporary arrangements of swinging standards with the lush orchestral sounds of the Pittsburgh Symphony in the intimate MCG Concert Hall.

The historic 1950 recordings of Charlie Parker and Strings will be revisited by NEA Jazz Master Phil Woods and members of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Mr. Parker himself often referred to these sessions as being his all-time favorites featuring classic standards arranged for Jazz quartet with strings and winds. Also featured on the program will be selections from the 1955 Clifford Brown with Strings recording featuring Dr. James Moore on trumpet with the orchestra.

Truly a special evening combining the very best in melodic jazz performance with the richness of the orchestral instrumentation.
