Filmmaker Marilyn Agrelo’s charming and inspiring documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom, screens at the Gables Cinema on Saturday & Sunday, February 13 and 14 at 11:00 am as part of our children and family program, Family Day on Aragon! Mad Hot Ballroom follows the journey of several 11-year-old New York City public school kids from reluctant and awkward ballroom dancing students to confident and audacious ballroom competitors. As they learn the moves for meringue, tango, foxtrot and swing, they also learn much about themselves and each other and the importance of passion for whatever one chooses to do. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone writes, “Listening to the kids talk is a treat in itself, but watching them strut their stuff in the final competition is enough to make you stand up and cheer.” This film is appropriate for ages 8 and up.
