Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a year away from 30 and lives an aimless life. His colleagues disrespect him; he’s estranged from his step-father; his roommate is fed up with his unemployed, loud-mouthed best friend Ed; and his girlfriend is unhappy with their social life. This is the world Shaun finds himself right when the dreaded zombie apocalypse descends upon the world. Directed by Edgar Wright and co-written by Wright and Pegg, this British horror comedy film brought the quick wit and rapid-fire editing of the talented duo to the world stage. The film impressed not only regular audiences but other filmmakers, including Quentin Tarantino (who called it one of his top twenty films since 1992) but the mastermind behind the zombie flick, George Romero, who asked Wright and Pegg to appear in cameo roles in 2005’s Land of the Dead. Part romantic comedy, part horror film, Shaun of the Dead is all quality so let’s go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all this to blow over.
