"Larrain is one of the world's most exciting and imaginative filmmakers." -Lindsey Bahr, Associated Press

"A work of such cleverness and beauty, alongside such power...a stunningly inventive take on the function rather than the life of a writer." -Jay Weissberg, Variety

An investigator (Gael García Bernal) launches a search for Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco), who became a fugitive in his own country for his Communist leanings during the 1940s.

An unorthodox tale about an unorthodox man, director Pablo Larraín’s ("Jackie," "No," "Tony Manero") metafictional tale conjures up the legendary Nobel-winning poet, committed communist and unapologetic hedonist Neruda. When Chile outlaws his party in 1948, the left-wing artist-activist goes underground. Tracked by an ambitious, self-important police inspector, Neruda's life on the run inspires some of his greatest work, and the hunt for the poet becomes an exploration of the power of poetry itself.
