Description

Echoes of the Harlem Renaissance is the third in a series of live documentaries written by Emmy award winner, Soprano, Adrienne Danrich. This musical tribute celebrates one of the most exciting times in American history-- the 1920s and 1930s in Harlem, New York.  Honoring musicians, writers, composers and visual artists working at that time, the program salutes Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and Duke Ellington among others. Baritone, Eric McKeever and Pianist, Djordje Nesic join Ms. Danrich in performing popular songs from the era such as God Bless the Child, Stormy Weather, What a Wonderful World, reciting poems that highlight the emerging pride in the African American experience and displaying photo images and artwork as a backdrop to the narrative.  Even today the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance echoes in the music and art world. Through contemporary artwork and newly commissioned music by New York based composer, Drew Hemenger, Danrich pays homage to the brilliance of Harlem Renaissance artists.
