A hit in its home country of Cuba, Ernesto Daranas’ Behavior portrays Havana’s kids with gritty and controversial realism. Chala is eleven years old and lives alone with his drug addict mother. To make ends meet, he trains carrier pigeons and fight dogs. His only advocate is his sixth grade teacher, who will risk everything to help Chala.
Developed through a collaboration with students in a workshop at Cuba’s Instituto Superior de Art, Behavior displays an authenticity rare in such classroom oriented dramas.
