Description

With reality television airing all sides of celebrity with unabashed aplomb, it is fascinating to think there was a time when those in the spotlight longed to keep their private life private.  Such was the case with Tab Hunter, reigning heartthrob of Hollywood and the chart-topper of recorded music of the 1950s.  With the studios manufacturing the ideal image of what the quintessential matinee idol should be to America, it was easy to gloss over what the real person driving that fan frenzy wants to be.  The audience gets first-hand, revealing accounts of life under the limelight and behind the curtain from the entertainer, while smartly weaving in rare archival footage, and intimate accounts from the likes of Clint Eastwood, George Takei, Debbie Reynolds, Robert Osborne and John Waters.  The result is an important documentary for the moment that is at times heartbreaking and altogether inspiring.  The film saw its world premiere at 2015 South By Southwest Film Festival.
