Description

The Rooftop Series presents well-loved classics, beneath the stars and above the streets of Iowa City. Cake, giveaways, karaoke, costume contests—you never know what we’ll add to each screening to butter up your Rooftop experience.  Party starts at 7:30 in the lobby, film begins at dusk (usually 8:30/8:45).  If inclement weather, we'll screen the film in the theater.

Ticket includes a specialty drink (think watermelon, baby!) made just for the show!

DIRTY DANCING

"The dancing here brings out the sensual dreaminess of the songs. 'Dirty Dancing' -- what a great title! -- is such a bubbleheaded, retro vision of growing up in the sixties (or any other time) that you go out of the theatre giggling happily." -Pauline Kael, The New Yorker

"Smart and funny, touching and unabashedly sensual." -Los Angeles Times

Nobody puts Baby in the corner! It's the summer of 1963 and 17-year-old Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she's disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort's dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby's father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she's determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.
