One of the world's most inventive filmmakers is coming to Iowa City.

The University of Iowa Lecture Committee will present "In Conversation with Terry Gilliam," a free discussion on Friday, October 23 at 7:30pm at the IMU Ballroom. Prior to the lecture, FilmScene will host a reception and gala event honoring Gilliam for his decades of visionary filmmaking. The intimate reception, with remarks by Gilliam, will take place at 5:00 pm at Hotel Vetro, and will include food from sponsor Motley Cow Cafe, drinks, and reserved seating at the lecture. Tickets are $100 and available at www.icfilmscene.org.

The multi-talented Gilliam will be appearing as part of a tour for his new book "Gilliamesque: A Pre-posthumous Memoir," a high-spirited tale of one man's life work and adventures in art and film.

Director of such iconic and cult-classic films as "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Time Bandits," "Brazil," "The Fisher King," "12 Monkeys," and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," Gilliam will visit for a lecture and reception in conjunction with The Obermann Center's symposium "Don Quixote in the Age of Electronic Reproduction."

As part of Gilliam's visit, FilmScene will present a retrospective featuring Gilliam's visionary, acclaimed works on the big screen. Throughout the month of October, FilmScene will pay homage to the director with "Cinema Savant: Select Films of Terry Gilliam," a month-long, seven-film series, including featured films in a number of our ongoing series, including the Bijou Film Board's After Hours, The Picture Show presented by MidWestOne Bank and The Late Shift at the Grindhouse. Details and showtimes TBA soon.

Gilliam is rumored to have recently moved forward with his famed unfinished project "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote."

Presenting partners include the University of Iowa Lecture Committee, Motley Cow Cafe, the Obermann Center, and the Bijou Film Board.
