Screening with short film Irons in the Fire.
In 1972, Archie Shepp recorded the album Attica Blues, an homage to the Attica prison rebellion. In this documentary, he recreates this music 40 years later with a new orchestra. Interwoven with this narrative is the story of the uprising. As the rebels tell of their fear and hope, we witness Shepp's determination to transmit, beyond the notes, the meaning and feeling of his music. We discover the ties, some intimate, that the musicians have with the Attica events.
