Description

This bawdy comic masterpiece stars Marcello Mastroianni as a cynical businessman, Domenico, forced to marry a not-so-naive country girl Filumena, played with fiery intensity by Sophia Loren. When Domenico hopes to keep Filumena as a mistress (and caretaker of his elderly mother) while marrying a much younger woman, the sly Filumena fakes a terminal illness, and asks him to marry her in her final hours. With a sudden "recovery", Filumena wrecks all of Domenico's plans for happiness. What's a poor Italian man to do?

Vittorio De Sica, famous for his neorealism masterpiece, Bicycle Thieves, abandons his austere style to embrace vibrant color and a wild comic tone to make Marriage Italian Style a feast for the eyes, and a comedy classic.
