Once a high-profile criminal lawyer, Demetrio Perez is now a beaten man, a dour public defender whose world is coming undone. Luca Zingaretti, famous for the Inspector Montalbano television series, plays the title character, the hardboiled and spiritually exhausted Perez. Director De Angelis brings us a steely-gray world of double-cross and compromise, as compelling a story as you will likely see this year.
