Description

Director Elmo Nüganen, who wore his acting hat in last year’s Oscar-nominated Tangerines, as farmer Margus, flexes his film directing skills in this gritty war epic, which ranks as Estonia’s biggest-ever domestic box office success. As the film illustrates, the titular year was a dangerous and painful one for Estonian soldiers who found themselves on home turf, fighting compatriots. 1944 focuses on two courageous Estonian staff sergeants: farm boy Karl, who wears the uniform of the SS, and Juri, who fights with the Red Army..
