Description

Chen Sheng is an ex-con who was recently released from jail and has set up a low-key medical practice in the town of Kaili, in southwestern China. Chen spends his time lamenting the loss of his wife, who died while he was in jail, and lending a little paternal care to his nephew Weiwei. When Weiwei disappears, Chen sets off to find him, which quietly erases the line between the past, present and future. Poet-turned-director Bi Gan transforms his lyricism from page to screen in a debut feature that won Best Emerging Director at the Locarno Film Festival.

Press

"Dreamy, poetry-filled and prone to veering off on tangents, the picture teases viewers with such self-assurance it's difficult to believe the twentysomething director is a first-timer." - Hollywood Reporter
