Description

Named for a downtown district in Montreal, Ville-Marie explores parallel lives and relationships burdened with the secrets of personal struggles. Sophie (Monica Bellucci) is a celebrated actress in Montreal to shoot a movie but also to visit her college age son (Aliocha Schneider, a 2015 TIFF Rising Star), who expects to finally learn who his father is. Meanwhile Marie, an overworked nurse, and Pierre, an ambulance driver suffering from PTSD, offer each other as much support as possible in their stressful and isolated lives. Guy Edoin’s elegant second feature is a moving drama with superb performances.

"Though occasionally blunt and derivative, 'Ville-Marie' is is more often an insightful and admirably complex take on human behavior." - Hollywood Reporter
