On her 10th birthday, Cathy’s quirky dad gives her an unusual gift: a fertilized egg. When the egg hatches, the duckling bonds with the first person it sees—Cathy’s good friend Margaux. Realizing they can’t alter the power of attachment instinct, Cathy accepts that the duckling should live with her friend. Margaux is eager to play mother duck, but her parents are unwilling. Margaux has a disability and uses a wheelchair, and her parents believe she’s incapable. Together, Margaux and Cathy struggle to raise the duckling to thrive independently. When the girls take off on a desperate but thrilling adventure for their duckling’s freedom, everyone’s impressions of life’s limitations are challenged. For ages 8+.
