Director Yared Zeleke Attending
Young Ephraim’s life is thrown into upheaval when he is left in the care of relatives as his father seeks work in Addis Ababa. Ephraim finds solace in his pet lamb Chuni and the three generations of women in the family who nurture his interest in the ‘womanly’ skill of cooking. When his cousin insists that Chuni will be sacrificed, Ephraim decides to come up with a plan to save his lamb and get back home. Yared Zeleke’s emotionally complex debut, the first Ethiopian film invited to Cannes, paints a vivid portrait of rural Ethiopian life.
