Description

The famed romance between film director Shin Sang-ok and actress Choi Eun-hee made them one of the most famous couples in South Korea. As their relationship and their careers went on a downturn, uber-movie fan Kim Jong-il—then the son of supreme leader, Kim Il-sung—had his own plans. He had the couple kidnapped to North Korea for the purpose of making movies north of the DMZ. Truth is stranger than fiction in this bizarre story that includes imprisonment, torture and the making of seven feature films—including the cult hit Pulgasari—all produced by Kim Jong-il.
