A lacerating biopic of Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro), the middleweight boxing champion who was known as “The Bronx Bull” and “The Raging Bull” during his brief reign. LaMotta had early lessons in life: to steal and to fight. He channelled his tough childhood into the ring, where his aggression became a way of combating deep-seated anxieties and emotional fears. This determination and rage turned him from a young hoodlum into a champion. But his drive for the title, his brutality outside of the ring and his almost-psychotic sexual jealousy will destroy his marriage, his deepest friendships and the career he fought to build.
Raging Bull was nominated for eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography (Michael Chapman), and won two awards: Best Actor (Robert De Niro) and Best Film Editing (Thelma Schoonmaker).
The gritty photography, by renowned cinematographer Michael Chapman (Taxi Driver, The Detail), comes to life on a new 4K restoration like you’ve never seen it before. Approved by director Martin Scorsese, this new master was created in 4K resolution on a Lasergraphics Director film scanner from the 35mm original camera negative. The original 2.0 surround soundtrack was remastered from the 35mm three-track magnetic track.
