Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Raised on hip-hop and foster care, defiant city kid Ricky gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside. He quickly finds himself at home with his new foster family: the loving Aunt Bella, the cantankerous Uncle Hec, and dog Tupac. When a tragedy strikes that threatens to ship Ricky to another home, both he and Hec go on the run in the bush. As a national manhunt ensues, the newly branded outlaws must face their options: go out in a blaze of glory or overcome their differences and survive as a family.
Equal parts road comedy and coming-of-age drama, director Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows, upcoming Thor: Ragnarok) masterfully weaves lively humor with emotionally honest performances by Sam Neill and Julian Dennison. DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
 Taika Waititi (Director/Writer/Producer) is an award-winning actor, director and writer best known for his hit feature films Boy, Eagle vs Shark and What We Do in the Shadows. Boy, Eagle vs Shark holds the title of New Zealand’s highest-grossing local film of all time, and garnered awards at the New Zealand Film Awards, the Berlin International Film Festival, and the AFI Film Festival. What We Do in the Shadows, which Waititi co-wrote, co-directed and co-starred in with Jemaine Clement, was named “Best Reviewed Comedy of the Year” by Rotten Tomatoes.
Waititi’s additional writer/director credits include the 2005 Academy Award®-nominated short film Two Cars, One Night, and the short film Tama Tu, which picked up festival prizes at Sundance, Indianapolis, Stockholm and Berlin film festivals. He has written and directed multiple episodes of several television series, including Flight of the Conchords, Super City and the U.S. adaptation of The Inbetweeners.
