In solidarity and in community with those who tragically lost
their lives at the Pulse nightclub attack in Orlando we present a
screening of MILK, with all proceeds benefiting the survivors of the
attack through the fund at Equality Florida.
Gay
Rights Activist. Friend. Lover. Unifier. Politician. Fighter. Icon.
Inspiration. Hero. His life changed history, and his courage changed
lives. In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major
public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay
rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior
citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what
it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his
untimely death in 1978, a hero for all Americans.
MILK,
was written by openly gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (who won an
Academy Award for his script) and directed by openly gay filmmaker Gus
Van Sant. Actor Sean Penn's portrayal of Milk, garnered him his second
Academy Award.
Like the 49 dead in Orlando,
Harvey Milk's life was cut-tragically short yet his legacy has lived on
to help LGBTQ people of all colors, creeds, and identities. Let's gather
in remembrance of those lost and in solidarity to build a better world.
