Description

Special Engagement - Four Shows Only - Don't Miss!

"Beautifully made and deeply felt." -Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

"Superb. Sensual and glowingly lyrical. A grand-scale melodrama compressed into the quietly burning point of a single soul." –Richard Brody, The New Yorker

"Davies's long-delayed passion project finally reaches our screens. It has been worth the wait." -Mark Kermode, The Observer

Deeply emotional and romantic at its core, SUNSET SONG is acclaimed director Terence Davies' epic yet intimate tale of hope, tragedy and love at the dawning of the Great War, brought to the screen with Davies' signature poetic realism and stunning cinematography by Michael McDonough. The film takes place during the early years of the twentieth century, with the conflicts and choices a young woman experiences reflecting the struggle between tradition and change; a struggle that continues to resonate today. Set in a rural community, SUNSET SONG is driven by the young heroine Chris (played with great depth and luminoisty by Agyness Deyn) and her intense passion for life, for her unsettled husband Ewan, and for the unforgiving land. The First World War reaches out from afar, bringing the modern world to bear on the community in the harshest possible way; yet in a final moment of grace, Chris endures, now a woman of remarkable strength who is able to draw from the ancient land in looking to the future.
