The Man Who Knew Infinity is an underdog story about the struggles we have to transcend to achieve infinity. Set during WWI, Srinivasa Ramanujan (Patel, Slumdog Millionaire), a self-taught mathematician from India who gains admittance to Cambridge, hopes that the establishment will accept his formulas. One of his teachers and supporters is H. G. Hardy (Irons). Together they work to overcome racism and the rigidity of academia to revolutionize the field with his startlingly original theorems, which he attributes to divine inspiration.
