In Woody Allen's latest, it's the 1930s in New York, and Bobby (Eisenberg) has some family problems. His brother Ben is a small-time gangster, and Bobby's dad is a small-time jeweler that Bobby can't stand to work for anymore. The solution, naturally, is to flee to Los Angeles to join his Uncle Phil (Carrell), a bigshot talent agent.
Bobby finds a life for himself in LA and soon falls in love with Phil's secretary Vonnie (Stewart). However, Vonnie is in a relationship. When that fizzles, though, she finds herself falling for Bobby.
The course of true love never did run smooth. Judging from the way Bobby returns to New York, making true love doesn't run so much as limp. Or maybe roll over and play dead. But hey, there's glitz, glamour, and Los Angeles and New York in all their romanticized glory. At least you (and Bobby) have that going for you (and, er, him).
