Little Men

The Jardine family, Brian (Kinnear), Kathy (Ehle), and 13-year-old Jake (Taplitz), inherit a Brooklyn building from Brian's father. There's a catch - tenants on the first floor in the form of Lenore Calvelli (Garcia), a dressmaker, and her 13-year-old son, Tony (Barbieri). Despite entirely different personalities, Jake and Tony become fast friends and are soon inseparable. Tony even gets a beat-down for defending the shy, quiet Jake from bullies at school.

Tony wants to be an actor when he grows up. Brian, already an actor, would probably advise against that, because he's out of work more often than not. The family relies on Kathy and her job as a nurse for their income.

Inevitably, the Jardines find out Brian's father was charging Lenore so little for rent that they could triple the rest and still be below market cost in the neighborhood.

They desperately need the money. The problem is, so does Lenore. And Jake and Tony are right in the middle of it.
