Description

My Blind Brother is a tale of two siblings, Bill (Nick Kroll) an unambitious, laid-back guy, and Robbie (Adam Scott), his blind, seemingly altruistic, super-athlete, never-met-a-race-he-couldn’t-win, brother. Bill, who has always felt like a supporting character in the larger-than-life story of his over-achieving brother’s life, is secretly resentful and more than a little jealous of the fact that Robbie gets so much attention for his heroics. Worse still, these emotions make him feel so guilty that he forces himself to serve as a guide to his brother when he performs his athletic feats—meaning he has to do whatever Robbie does. But Bill is also privy to his brother’s darker side: when the spotlight is off, Robbie is angry, petulant, and self-absorbed, not the noble figure everyone else sees.

Life becomes a little more promising for Bill when he meets Rose (Jenny Slate), a vibrant young woman who seems to be his soulmate. Like Bill, Rose is a sweet slacker with a terrible secret: she is drowning in guilt because she feels responsible for her ex-boyfriend’s tragic death. Right after she broke up with him, he was struck and killed by a bus. Now, Rose looks for ways to assuage her guilt, hoping to prove to herself -- and to others -- that she is a compassionate, charitable and good human being. Rose volunteers to assist a blind man, who, of course, turns out to be Robbie. When both brothers fall in love with the same girl, comedy and drama intersect as director Sophie Goodhart follows the misadventures of this unlikely triangle of three intensely human characters on a quest for their own kind of happiness.
