The Sankofa Festival runs September 16-25 in partnership with several organizations including the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul, Intermedia Arts, Capri Theater, IFP-MN, Walker Art Center, East Side Freedom Library, and community organizations. It features awards, including a Festival Prize, an Audience Award, and more. The jury will feature local and national filmmakers and creatives.

Dedicated to fostering a diverse cinematic experience for and about people of African descent, the festival will showcase narratives of the divergent and dynamic stories of Black life in the US and internationally. It takes place in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area which is home to not only a vibrant African American community but also one of the largest African communities in the country, with residents from Liberia, Somalia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya and countless others.

The Sankofa Film Festival and Trú Rúts Endeavors, were founded by E.G. Bailey and Sha Cage. Trú Rúts with a 20 year history, functions as a multi-diciplinary artistic enterprise including film, theater and music whose mission is to bring to fruition endeavors that celebrate and honor culture. Both Bailey and Cage work as critically accomplished producers, performers, curators, and directors around the Twin Cities and artistic communities around the world.
