This irreverent, sort-of-adaptation of Chekhov’s classic, The Seagull, not only contemporizes the one-hundred year old language, but also redefines the author’s goal for our generation. In The Seagull, Konstantin says, “We need new forms. And if we can’t have them we are better off with no theatre at all.” Using music, meta-theatricality, mad humor, and a bombastic, fearless voice, this play begs us to consider how art, love, and revolution fuel our pursuit of happiness.
