A celebration of one of the most dazzling and influential moments in the evolution of Rock music, featuring David Bowie, Mark Bolan and T-Rex, Mott the Hoople, Alice Cooper, and many more!

Starting in Great Britain in the early 1970’s and then going international, rock bands started to compete for attention by wearing outrageous clothes that soon became a rage of unpredictable costumes, hair styles that branched out into wigs, make-up, platform shoes and boots that got higher and higher off the ground, and even glitter on their skin. With the costumes came changes in the musical style and elaborate theatrical performances. There was no mistaking these musicians with your parents’ favorite bands of the 1940s and 1950s. Politicians, the older generation, and the BBC saw these new acts as shocking, repulsive, and dangerous. But the teenagers loved them!
Glam rock landed smack dab in the middle of Rock and Roll and Punk. Dozens of groups popped up on the charts. Each album cover had more outlandish costumes and make-up than the next. However, the music and the presentations brought a joy and creativity that influenced music, fashion, and more.
This program will include The Sweet (“Fox on the Run” and “Ballroom Blitz”), Marc Bolan and T-Rex (“Bang a Gong (Get It On)” and “Jeepster”), Slade (“Mama Weer All Crazee Now”), Gary Glitter (“Rock and Roll Part 2”), David Bowie (“Jean Genie”), Mott the Hoople (“All the Young Dudes”), plus Bay City Rollers, Mud, Alice Cooper, and many more. Approx. 100 minutes Educational Lecture by Bill Shelley of Shelly Archives Inc.
