Screening with short film Mirror.

Nestled into a warm, supportive home shared with her mother Paula (Mariana Loyola, The Maid), her mother’s partner Lia (Agustina Munoz, Viola) and younger sister Catalina (Emilia Ossandon), 12 year-old Sara (newcomer Julia Lubbert in an assured performance) takes her first cautious steps into the world of high school, boys, and good times alongside her best friend Pancha (Micaele Cristi). But when their uncommon home life is challenged in an effort orchestrated by her father Victor (Daniel Munoz), smart and observant Sara finds herself facing the possibility of having her family torn apart while at the same time navigating the awkward and often overwhelming realities of being a teenager.

Co-written by acclaimed author Alicia Scherson (Play), this debut feature from writer/director Pepa San Martin is a fresh and surprising coming of age film that doesn’t shy away from the realities faced by many families headed by same-sex parents, yet without ever becoming a ‘lesson’ film. Keenly observed and sensitively drawn, Rara is a movie for anyone who’s fought to keep their head up in a world that just doesn’t get it.

Press

"Wonderfully light of touch, full of well-observed human detail and even-handedly compassionate..."- The Hollywood Reporter
