Directed by Ira Sachs (Love is Strange, Keep the Lights On, Forty Shades of Blue) with his trademark humanism and insight, Little Men highlights the New York City landscape with a story of life-defining friendships in the midst of familial turmoil and a rapidly changing neighborhood.

Jake (Theo Taplitz) is a quiet, sensitive middle schooler with dreams of being an artist. He meets the affably brash Tony (Michael Barbieri) at his grandfather’s funeral, and the unlikely pair soon hit it off. The budding friendship is put at risk, however, when a rent dispute between Jake’s father, Brian (Greg Kinnear), and Tony’s mother, Leonor (Paulina Garcia), threatens to become
contentious. (USA, 2016, 85 min, PG, DCP | Dir: Ira Sachs | Sundance Film Festival | Berlin Film Festival)

Hosted by Fred Craden (Sunday Schmooze series), the Cinema Showcase series is an opportunity to see some of the many great new films released today. If you have every wondered why our monthly folio includes films that don’t end up being shown, it is because we only have three screens, and sometimes the immense amount of great new films don’t all fit into our schedule. This series was created as an answer to that problem, letting us create a proverbial “fourth screen” so that we can continue in our mission to present as much of the best new cinematic artistry as we possibly can.
