Description

What are two best friends to do in suburbia right after graduating high school in the late 90s? Befriend a middle aged man who collects blues records after answering a personal ad as a prank only to become matchmakers for him, of course. Adapted from Daniel Clowes’s graphic novel of the same name, Scarlett Johanssen and Thora Birch star as outsiders Rebecca and Enid as they set out to find the perfect match for Seymour (Steve Buscemi) but when Enid considers attending art school across the country, the life-long best friends must cope with the potential death of their friendship. Nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, Ghost World is a charming coming-of-age tale with hipness to spare. As Roger Ebert said, “It creates specific, original, believable, lovable characters, and meanders with them through their inconsolable days, never losing its sense of humor."
