Moonlight

Told in three chapters, each focusing on a different time, Moonlight illustrates the story of Chiron's self-discovery. Chiron (played by three different actors) is who he was made to be by society, and Moonlight shows him lose more and more of himself to society's expectations as his story unfolds.
But just because he has lost more of himself doesn't mean he's lost all of himself. While finding a family, taking care of old friends, and forgiving old enemies, it seems society hasn't entirely beaten Chiron down. He may just survive, scarred but stronger, even loved.
Almost universally declared the best movie of 2016, Moonlight is a rare sure bet for an Oscar nomination.
