The Film: Recovering
Director: Michael de Yoanna, Murrow-Winning Journalist. (RT 67 min.)
This independent documentary film takes us on a journey with troops riding bicycles to attempt to heal from wounds like PTSD and brain injuries. Others are learning how adapt after losing limbs. Troops and young vets develop lifelong friendships along the way. The film shows troops doing something troops did not do in earlier generations. They are speaking openly about their struggles overcoming PTSD and suicide. They want to erase the prevalent stigma that exists in the military and the communities they return to when they leave the military. The film is a chance for ordinary Americans, many who do not even know a veteran who served in Iraq or Afghanistan, to see who went to serve the country after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
