During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.
In the fifteen years since its initial release, Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film “Spirited Away,” about a 10-year-old girl who enters a mysterious spirit world to free herself and her parents, has been cemented as a modern classic. It was universally acclaimed upon release, became the most successful film in Japanese history and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. This past August, the film was voted as the fourth best film of the 21st century so far by over 177 fi lm critics from around the world. 10-year-old Chihiro and her parents stumble upon a seemingly abandoned amusement park. After her mother and father are turned into giant pigs, Chihiro learns that the park is a resort for supernatural beings, and she finds herself thrown into an epic journey to save herself and her parents. (Japan, 2016, 125 min., English, PG, DCP | Dir. Hayao Miyazaki)
