Description

Plays Monday, April 24 at 7:00 PM. Mabel Longhetti (Gena Rowlands), desperate and lonely, is married to a Los Angeles municipal construction worker, Nick (Peter Falk). Increasingly unstable, especially in the company of others, she craves happiness, but her extremely volatile behavior convinces Nick that she poses a danger to their family and decides to commit her to an institution for six months. Alone with a trio of kids to raise on his own, he awaits her return, which holds more than a few surprises.

Programmer's Note

John Cassavetes is the first indie director if you think about it—he and his friends were capturing NYC in a very 70’s way. They’re a weird time capsule of NYC and society. There are a million kids in NYC having this I’m gonna make it and be the next big thing—Cassavetes was the first. An American Independent filmmaking heavyweight. His films are very true to life—real things are happening and film is the mirror.
