Six short films including recent experimental, documentary, and animated works. Features the Hutongs in Beijing; a hand-painted visual poem about diaspora; one woman's absurdist struggle; a mobile home park in Silicon Valley; an essay about friendship, youth, illness and death in the form of an animated collage; and the World Premiere of America For Americans by Blair McClendon, a found footage essay film on the ecstacy and anguish of besieged black life in the United Stated of America.
The Hutongs in Beijing contain a special atmosphere for me. As an overseas Chinese who has never lived in China, I nevertheless found a way to identify with these places. After the experience of wandering around them as a foreigner, I imagine some myths coming alive in the Hutongs. Even though buildings and artifacts disappear in the face of modernity, myths remain and preserve our collective memory.
