DUSTY SPRINGFIELD: A TRIBUTE

Tuesday, March 21 at 7:30 pm | Members $11 | Public $16 –Includes reception

Join music historian Bill Shelley for an unforgettable one-night-only tribute to legendary blue-eyed soul singer Dusty Springfield featuring rare concert performances that highlight the powerhouse vocal style that made her one of the most beloved singers of her time.

Dusty Springfield was blessed with a powerful, smoky voice that ran the emotional gamut from cool sophistication to simmering passion. Over the course of a long career, she tackled adult pop, Memphis R&B, Motown-style soul, folk, and country music. Dusty made numerous hit records in both Europe and America, and landed a hosting spot on Ready, Steady, Go! where she did such things as sing with Motown artists and hobnob with the Beatles (who named her as their favorite singer). This special one-night-only features numerous rare concert performances, including her appearances on her own show Dusty, where she performed with many well known pop stars, even Jimi Hendrix. In 1968, she traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to record a solo album with a horn section. The result was Dusty in Memphis, which earned international acclaim and included the hit “Son of a Preacher Man.” Many fans consider this her best album. Among the songs included in this program will be “Stay a While,” “Wishin’ and Hopin’,” “I Only Want to Be With You,” “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and many more. Approx. 110 minutes.
