QUEST

"A moving portrait. Devoid of any political posturing or editorial agenda, Quest is a jarring and gentle testament to the powers of family and individual kindness." — Hollywood Reporter

Filmed with vérité intimacy over the course of a decade, the documentary feature debut of director Jonathan Olshefski is a tender portrait of one North Philly family. In a neighborhood tattered by neglect, we meet Christopher “Quest” Rainey, and his wife Christine’a, “Ma Quest,” as they raise their children and nurture the creative sanctuary offered by their home music studio.

Set against the backdrop of a country in tumult and political upheaval, Quest illuminates issues of race, class and community through one family's extraordinary everyday struggle. In this community, opportunity and hope must come from within, and the Rainey's proud resilience is a testament to the powers of fortitude, family, and love.

"Even as 'Quest' toys with expectations, (there are no chart toppers to be found here), the triumphs in 'Quest' are much harder to spot, though they are mighty; love, family, and hope in the face of adversity. Nothing could be more harmonious." IndieWire

"'Quest' couldn’t be more relevant to national conversations about poverty and gun violence in its empathy for marginalized communities." — The Film Stage

"It’s about the past in a way that, even with all the tragedy and drama, now looks like more innocent times, and it’s about the future in the way it inspires hope that we can all overcome every painful obstacle and come to comprehend the issues and differences of everyone in this country."Nonfics
