“I think of a girl on a school playground, just standing alone. I spent a lot of time doing that…” So explains director Yoon Ga-eun about her debut feature, The World of Us. During a summer vacation in her tenth year, Sun, a wallflower at school, can finally relax and have some fun in life. And when Sun meets Jia, who is new to town, the two misfits share secrets, sleep over at each other’s homes, and have what seems the best summer ever. Jia is outgoing, while Sun is an introvert, skilled at braiding and making homemade nail polish. Soon these two appear to become best friends. However, when summer ends and the new semester begins, Jia seeks the company of the cool kids and begins to distance herself from Sun, and the world of Jia and Sun begins to split apart.
