Description

The second in director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s autobiographical trilogy (the first being The Dance of Reality), Endless Poetry is the auteur’s examination of his young adulthood in Santiago in the 1940s and 50s. “[I]ndulgent and recklessly alive” (The Guardian), this film explores every facet of the artistic process and the methods by which a son tears himself from the clutches of his family. It is at once thought-provoking, melodramatic, profane, gorgeous… and utterly Freudian. The director confronts his own father—and himself—by casting his son, Adan, as the young Jodorowsky, not to mention casting the same actress, Pamela Flores, as both his mother and his lover, the poet Stella Díaz. “I’m 86 and a half years old,” Jodorowsky explained on his Indigogo appeal to fund Endless Poetry. “Why am I making movies?... My entire body hurts. But oh, happiness! To finally be making a kind of cinema that heals!”

"This film from a director in his late 80s feels more joyously and recklessly alive than the work of many film-makers half his age." - The Guardian
