The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN has warned current global food production needs to at least double by 2050 to sustain the growing world population. The Gateway Bug, an independent documentary feature, has the solution: eat crickets!

The burgeoning cricket industry is the “gateway bug” of the title, a potentially Earth-saving solution as our water resources are being threatened by excessive meat consumption and an agriculture industry run amok. Over 80% of the countries on earth eat insects, and The Gateway Bug argues that it’s time for the west to come to the table. Featuring interviews with industry experts, food bloggers, restauranteurs, cricket farmers, as well recipes for mealworm guacamole, The Gateway Bug is a compelling, fascinating, and often humorous look at that ingredient that might just save the world.
