Description

Presented with a live score, as it was meant to be seen, Wings is a silent movie concert performed by the Prima Vista Quartet with the original score composed by Baudime Jam.

Arguably the last great silent film, this epic of World War I air combat, a thrilling and ultimately harrowing experience in an era of stunt men, real planes, and obviously no CGI, must be seen to be believed. Wings was winner of the very first Academy Award for Best Picture (the only truly silent film to win) and was directed by William Wellman, himself a veteran of air combat in the first great war. This timeless classic stars Richard Arlen as David and Charles Rogers as Jack, pals and rivals who take to the skies to fight, followed in the ambulance corps by their neighbor Mary (Clara Bow), whose love for Jack is unrequited.

About the Prima Vista Quartet

Since its creation in 1997, the Prima Vista Quartet has forged a unique identity: without forgetting the great repertoire of the string quartet, from Mozart and Haydn to Bartók and Shostakovich, with frequent detours through the rediscovery of little-known authors, as well as the creation of modern and contemporary works (sometimes composed for them), the Prima Vista Quartet has consistently explored new aesthetic horizons such as tango, jazz, klezmer, musical tales for children, transcriptions of symphonic and lyric repertoire, or the accompaniment of silent films of which it is one of the few specialists.

Director’s Biography

William Wellman: William Wellman (February 29, 1896 – December 9, 1975) was a director and pilot, who served in the Lafayette Flying Corps. With over 80 credits to his name from the silent to the sound era, Wellman is known best for Wings ('27), The Public Enemy ('31), and A Star is Born ('37), among many others.
