This year we will manufacture 300 million tons of plastic. Our addiction to plastic is impacting the food chain and is now affecting every one of us through new and developing human health problems.

Journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect. (Hong Kong, 2016, 102 min., English, NR, DCP | Dir. Craig Leeson)

Guest Speaker: Erica Cirino is a freelance science writer and artist covering wildlife and the environment, specializing in biology, conservation and policy. She was recently interviewed on NPR station WCAI 90.1, discussing plastic and her recent Pacific Ocean expedition with Living Lab’s Heather Goldstone and has had several stories about the trip published online.
