OFFICAL SELECTION: New York Film Festival (2016)
A riveting and intimate portrait of prima ballerina
Wendy Whelan at the end of her record setting thirty-year career with the New
York City Ballet. Now 46, Whelan, one of the modern era’s most acclaimed
dancers, is battling a painful injury that has kept her from the ballet stage.
The film follows her journey of tremendous strength, resilience, and good humor
through a surgery that she hopes will enable her comeback to NYCB. At the same time,
Whelan begins to explore the world of contemporary dance, as she steps outside
the traditional world of ballet to create a collaborative project with four
young choreographers.
