Daniel and Miranda are getting a divorce, with the judge awarding full custody of their children to Miranda. The judge agrees to joint custody if Daniel can find a job and a home within three months. Daniel, who loves his kids too much to only see them one day a week for three months, realizes he might have a way to make everyone happy. And thus, Mrs. Doubtfire is born.
Things start to improve. After a few mishaps - Daniel isn't a natural at housework - he starts doing better, and the children start doing better, too. Chris and Lydia soon discover Daniel's secret, but since they're happy to have their dad back, they agree to play along. Daniel even gets a job offer at the television studio!
