Description

Starting on the seventh and last day of the Jewish mourning period of shiva, Eyal and Vicky try to resume their lives after laying to rest their 25-year-old son, Ronnie. Vicky returns to the school where she teaches. Shopkeeper Eyal opts for an abdication of routine, copping his dead son's medicinal weed, getting high, playing ping-pong and judging air-guitar routines with his neighbor's stoner son, Zooler. The world refuses to accommodate Vicky and Eyal's period of adjustment and the parents find themselves acting out as they attempt to regain a hold on their upturned lives. Asaph Polonsky's debut feature is buoyed by unexpected levity and endearing turns from all three principals. One Week and a Day is a bracing lark - warm, funny and wise. No wonder it swept the Jerusalem Film Festival's major awards and was the surprise hit of the Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival.

Join us for a wine reception on Friday, May 12 starting at 7:00 pm followed by One Week and a Day at 8:00 pm, featuring a Q&A with director Asaph Polonsky moderated by Igor Shteyrenberg, director of the Miami Jewish Film Festival.
