Description

From the director of Far From the Madding Crowd, and even more relevant, the first Dogme 95 film The Celebration, Thomas Vinterberg takes another deep dive into the trials of families, both biological and acquired.
Set sometime in1970's Copenhagen, Erik and Anna are an upscale professional couple with a dream, and probably some hippie pretensions. Along with their daughter, Freja, they set up a commune in Erik's huge villa. Then they invite strangers in to help them defray the costs and democratically, collectively, run the household.
Anyone whose lived in a group house knows where this is going.
Loosely based on Vinterberg's childhood, The Commune is a sharp and sentimental observation of good ideals going bad.
