David Mamet’s tense heist thriller about a psychiatrist whose attempts to aid a compulsive gambler result in her being led by a smooth-talking grifter into the shadowy but compelling world of stings, scams, and con men.

Based on a story written with Jonathan Katz, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter David Mamet’s directorial debut is a mercilessly sly, psychological thriller. It is a witty tale of an uptight therapist and best-selling author (Lindsay Crouse) who must confront her own obsessions when she meets an attractive, smooth-talking cardsharp (Joe Mantegna), and then proceeds to turn the tables on him. House of Games is as psychologically acute as it is full of twists and turns- a rich character study told with the cold calculation of a career criminal. (USA, 1987, 102 min., R, English | Dir. David Mamet)
