America’s cinemas celebrate the life & work of Long Island-born filmmaker Jonathan Demme with a special nationwide screening of his legendary Talking Heads concert film.

Long Island-born filmmaker Jonathan Demme created a stunning series of brilliant movies (The Silence of the Lambs, Married to the Mob, Philadelphia, Melvin & Howard, Something Wild, Swimming To Cambodia, Rachel Getting Married, Neil Young: Heart of Gold) before his untimely death this year. Demme celebrated art house theaters, and now we’re celebrating him with a nationwide screening of his legendary performance film Stop Making Sense, considered by many to be the greatest concert film of all time.
This 1984 film captures a live performance of Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads, a cataclysm of entertainment, experimental theater, musical performance, and an exercise in deconstruction. At once intimate and epic, Demme’s movie allows us to fully experience this beloved band at the height of their powers and was made to be seen on the big screen. (US, 1984, 88 min., English, PG, DCP | Dir. Jonathan Demme)
